| I work for the NYC Dept of Small Business Services; and in that capacity I speak with 500 new and start up businesses every year...so I have some degree of authority on this subject. Your home-grown approach is entirely appropriate. There is no best way to begin. Start small and grow. You may find a market for this item, you may not. But you are doing what a lot of people wished they could do, but don't have the wherewithall to make happen. Go for it. Many of the most successful start ups are ones that eminate out of people's own hobbies and interests. This is because they like what they are doing, and they are good at it. And if you are good enough, you can get paid for doing almost anything. Follow your instincts on this one. I think you are right on target.
